Rural Health Scholarship

This scholarship is only for students who intend to go to medical school to become a physician.

Indiana State University and Indiana University School of Medicine have developed a unique opportunity for students from rural Indiana. The Rural Health Program offers students an opportunity to earn a baccalaureate degree with admission to medical school (Indiana University School of Medicine — Terre Haute on the campus of Indiana State University) following completion of undergraduate studies and all program requirements. The program is specifically designed to prepare students from rural and/or underserved areas of Indiana to return to their hometowns or similar towns as primary care physicians. To be considered you must have lived a substantial portion of your life in a federally designated area that is not metropolitan or is designated as a rural census tract.

*Qualified students should possess: at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale); be a rural resident of Indiana; a “Core 40” or other college-preparatory high school diploma; and complete an interview in 2022.

Candidates should submit SAT/ACT scores whenever possible. However, in light of the limited availability of the tests to students, SAT/ACT scores are not required for consideration for the scholarship Fall 2022. Student evaluation will focus on high school GPA, rural background, and interest in rural medicine
