Creative and Performing Arts - Creative Writing

(1) Recipient must be an incoming freshman.
(2) Recipient must have a minimum of 2.5 grade point average in high school.
(3) Recipient must declare a creative writing minor or English major with a creative writing concentration in his/her first year and maintain the minor or concentration in order for the scholarship to renew.
(4) Recipient may receive this annual scholarship for a maximum of four years.

Applicants must submit a sample of fiction, creative nonfiction, and/or poetry for review. For prose, the sample must be at least four pages, and for poetry the sample must consist of at least three poems. Applicants must also provide the e-mail address for one person willing to provide a letter of recommendation that speaks to the applicant’s creative writing abilities.

  1. Please upload a writing sample. Your writing sample must be either fiction, creative non-fiction, and/or poetry. For prose, the sample must be at least four pages and for poetry it must include at least three poems. *Preferred document type is a Word Document*
  2. Please provide the name and email address of someone who can speak to your creative writing abilities. The reference can be from a high school teacher, guidance counselor, or other professional. Recommendations from family members will not be accepted. MAKE SURE to ask your reference if they can write a letter for you ahead of time and tell them that they will receive an email from us requesting it. Also tell them when the scholarship application deadline is.
