Hazel Tesh Pfennig Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to rising sophomores and up majoring in English, based on academic achievement (minimum 3.0 overall GPA and minimum 3.5 GPA for courses in the major above the 100 level). Applicants must also have completed at least one elective offered by the Department of English, as well as two of the following classes: English 230, 240, 241, 250, 251.

Applicants will submit a paper previously submitted to a course in the Department of English from the 200 level or above of at least 2,000 words.

This is not a need-based scholarship; rather, it is merit-based and highlights majors’ abilities and accomplishments. The Pfennig is our most prestigious award for English majors.

Finalists will be interviewed by the Pfennig Scholarship Committee in mid-March. The English Department will contact you to schedule an interview time, and you will be notified in April of the results.

The Pfennig Awards Ceremony will be held in late April or early May. The day and time will be announced later. Pfennig Scholarship recipients are expected to attend. Family and friends are cordially invited.
