Herbert I. and Bernice Lamb Alumni Scholarship

The Herbert I. and Bernice Lamb Scholarship was established through a bequest in the will of Mrs. Lamb. It reflects her affection in Mr. Lamb, their common love and loyalty for Indiana State University and their continued interest in assisting and encouraging students. A native of Princeton, Indiana, Herbert Ingram Lamb earned the bachelor’s degree in 1927 and the master’s degree in 1933 from Indiana State University. He also completed additional graduate study at Purdue University. While a student at ISU, he was president of his senior class and helped establish the Parsons-Sandison Living Memorial Scholarship Fund. As an alumnus he served on the Alumni Council, was an Alumni Association president and served two four-year terms as an Alumni representative on the ISU Board of Trustees. Mr. Lamb was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award by Indiana State University in 1980. Mr. Lamb’s career in education began with a teaching position in 1927 and culminated in 1951 after a two-year term as Assistant State Superintendent of Public Instruction. From 1951 until his retirement in 1968 he was the Indiana Representative of a book publishing company. A prominent educator and contributor to community affairs, Herbert I. Lamb died in 1983. Bernice Moore Lamb is also an alumna of Indiana State University, having earned the bachelor’s degree in 1935. They were married in 1937 and Mrs. Lamb served as a substitute teacher in the Vigo County School system. A devoted alumna of ISU, she passed away in 2003.

Eligible applicants will be enrolled full-time (at least 9 credit hours) in a graduate degree program at Indiana State University. Applicant must be a resident of Indiana. Preference will be given to applicants who display involvement in student organizations. Scholarship recipients shall be selected by a committee appointed by the ISU Alumni Association.
