Robert 'Rob' Abbinett, Jr. Nursing Scholarship

The intent of this scholarship is to provide support to nursing students, in honor of the life and work of Robert “Rob” Abbinett. Rob Abbinett led by example and served his community and country his entire life. He was a police officer, dedicated nurse, and veteran. He served 34 years in the military, retiring as lieutenant colonel and commander of CBNRE Enhanced Response Force Package (CERFP). His nursing career was his passion and he dedicated 26 years to providing exceptional medical care in Indiana and beyond. His work began in oncology and he advanced to an ER nurse, a flight nurse, and IU Lifeline Regional Manager.

Eligible applicants must: be a junior or senior in the academic year of the award; must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s of Nursing program; must submit a 100-300 word essay; must demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Office of Financial Aid; must have a cumulative university GPA of 3.0 or higher; must be a nontraditional student (returning to school after a year-long or greater absence); first preference to veterans or active duty military students, second preference to first-generation students; renewable for 1 additional year.
