Sycamore Teacher Leader Scholarship

The Sycamore Teacher Leader Scholarship is open to future teacher leaders who meet the following criteria:
• Admitted to Indiana State University as an incoming freshman for the fall semester,
• Major in one of the undergraduate teaching programs offered in the Bayh College of Education (Elementary, Secondary (including Music Education) or Special Education),
• Intend to pursue a career in the teaching profession,
• Have a high school cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale,
• Have a combined SAT score of 1170 (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and Math) or an ACT Composite score of 24 or higher,
• Have demonstrated leadership success and a history of community engagement and service.

Sycamore Teacher Leader Scholarships are for students in the Bayh College of Education who intend to major in elementary, secondary education or special education. These scholars will become the next teacher leaders and be part of the Bayh College of Education’s Scholars to Teachers (BEST) Program.

Full in-state tuition, with an additional $3,000 in a professional development account to be utilized over the 4 years

  2. Describe a time when you demonstrated leadership and overcame obstacles either through your school, social, or family life.(approx 150 words)
  3. Indiana State University prides itself in being ranked the #1 school in the nation for community service. Explain how you have served your community in the last 1-2 years.
  4. Please provide the name and email address of an individual who can recommend you for the Sycamore Teacher Leader Scholarship. This reference can be from anyone familiar with your leadership successes and accomplishments, including a high school teacher, guidance counselor, or employer. Recommendations from family members will not be accepted. MAKE SURE to ask your reference if they can write a letter for you ahead of time and tell them that they will receive an email from us requesting it. Also tell them what the scholarship application deadline is.
